Monty Carter is a professional violinist and violist, active for over twenty-five years as an orchestral and chamber musician, soloist, instructor, clinician, and festival adjudicator.

Recipient of the 2017 Studio Teacher award from the Missouri chapter of the American String Teachers Association, Monty has directed a variety of ensembles and taught Applied Strings and pedagogy courses at multiple colleges and universities in the Midwest.

He enjoys offering performance services with his wife, cellist Trilla Ray-Carter, founder and Artistic Director of the Kansas City Baroque Consortium (Carter + Ray = Carray Music), serving super-fun stringers as a studio teacher, and hanging out with his cats, Seena & Nomi.

Monty loves exploring and sharing music that has been cherished for centuries, decades … or the last few minutes! He also loves helping students discover the music in themselves, offering perspective and inspiration for pursuits of timeless repertoire, traditional tunes, music of the moment, and creative expression of their own.

A joyful vessel for creative compositions and arrangements throughout his career, Monty is excited to launch the Carray Music Press for string players of all levels.

Coming SOON:

  -  Violin & Viola solo and duet collections (with fun for ALL strings to follow);

  -  Studies and Supplemental Materials for students & instructors;

  -  Chamber, Large-ensemble & Symphonic adventures!
